One in custody as Lewis Co. Sheriff investigates vehicle thefts

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reported a Fort Madison, Iowa, man was arrested Monday for vehicle theft.

Sheriff David Parrish reported that Christopher Guzman, 18, of Fort Madison was arrested for stealing a Ford F150 pickup.

Parrish stated that Guzman was arrested following a report of a stolen truck from the Beilstein Camper Sales parking lot.

Parish said the owner of the stolen truck attempted to chase the vehicle on Highway 61 but was unable to catch the suspect. A member of the Palmyra Police Department located the truck at the Wilco gas station in Palmyra.

The Sheriff’s Office also discovered a stolen 2014 Jeep Compass near Beilstein Camper Sales. Parrish stated that the Jeep was stolen out of Donnellson, Iowa.

Stolen items from several Canton, Missouri, and Lee County, Iowa, residents were located in the Jeep.

It is unclear if the vehicle thefts are related.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the thefts along with the Canton Police Department, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fort Madison Police Department.

Guzman remains lodged in the Lewis County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 cash only bond.
