Adams County Coroner Jim Keller announced Wednesday that he is resigning, effective July 10.
Keller, who faced criticism for the way he was handling indigent deaths, stated although his term runs until 2020, he felt it was time to step down.
"After much consideration, my family and I have decided we need to focus on spending more quality time together, and that requires me to return to a regular schedule." Keller stated. "It has been my great pleasure serving as Adams County Coroner for the past six years, and I am thankful for the great people who supported me along the way."
"We are saddened to learn of Mr. Keller’s resignation, but understand that family is a priority." Adams County Chairman Les Post stated in a press release. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
The release did not state who takes over as the coroner once Keller steps down, but did state that anyone interested in the next election for the coroner position should contact Adams County Clerk Chuck Venvertloh at 217-277-2166.
