Hannibal’s Parks and Recreation Department now has the green light to create a new veterans memorial.
The department has a 3-D printed model of what the memorial will look like.
It will incorporate a historic bell from a navy ship that currently sits in Kiwanis Park.
"We already have a memorial to the veterans of World War 1 and World War 2 in Central Park. So the veterans came to us and wanted us to put together a memorial to veterans of all branches of military service." said Mary Lynne Richards with the parks department.
The location for the new memorial has not been set.
Richards said most of it will be paid for through bricks they will sell that commemorate veterans.
