The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) in Quincy is hosting an informational session for jobs at the Hannibal General Mills plant Thursday.
"This is an informational job fair so that means the company is coming over here and just trying to see what kind of work force they can bring in," said Bob Gough, Public Information Officer for IDES, "We have companies all over our area who are looking for good employees, that’s why general mills is having this kind of job fair, to bring in a new batch of resumes to look at."
Missouri officials said when companies are considering moving to areas around the Midwest, it can be a different situation than what they’re the company is used to.
"When you’re trying to recruit a company to the Midwest, who hasn’t done business here, they go to the census and they see little cities, little cities, even though Quincy is bigger than Hannibal [so] we sell radiuses, [..] a hundred thirty six thousand people live in a thirty mile radius around Hannibal."
Walley said General Mills is likely seeking to fill out its Progresso soup expansion at the Hannibal plant, which means jobs for workers all around the Tri-States.
The informational job fair will start for veterans at 4:30 Thursday, and will be open to the general public from five to six at 107 N. 3rd St in Quincy.
