Veterans from the Illinois Veterans Home got a chance to celebrate the 4th of July Wednesday.
They visited the Elks Club in Quincy for 4th of July festivities since this year’s fireworks celebration was moved from the Illinois Veterans Home to the Quincy riverfront. Veterans say Independence Day holds a lot of meaning for them.
"So many things going through my mind on a day like this that it’s hard to tell but I’ve enjoyed every bit and I’m glad I got to do what I had to do," said veteran Gerald Hackemack.
Veterans enjoyed a dinner hosted by members of the Elks Club.
