Work is now underway to renovate the former Sycamore health building for use by the Illinois Veterans Home.
According to our newsgathering partners at the Herald-Whig, crews are now in the process of removing asbestos.
It’s all part of a plan to bring the facility back up to standards so it can house 120 to 160 residents while the new veterans home is being built.
Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore said it’s a win-win for the city.
You’re going to see you know the property that may had it not been for the state buying that property may not have had a buyer for many years to come, when that happens you see properties start to not be taken care of and things like that. So it’s just good to have it back a part of the neighborhood.
