Best questions to ask on a summer college campus visit

Summer vacation usually means a break from the daily routine and time out of the classroom for kids, but some teens are taking advantage of that break to plan for their future.

Palmyra High School Principal Jared Pontius said it’s always good for juniors to get involved in the process early, but they need to be prepared.

He said students on visits should do background research on colleges, and be sure to ask specific questions that will help them make a decision.

"Academically, you want to investigate where your interests lie," Pontius said. "Do they give you opportunities to do internships and things like that so that you can get a better idea."

Pontius added that teens need to make sure the school is the best fit for you academically and financially.

He also said visiting during summer break may not give students the full experience. He explained students won’t get to see how busy campuses are and experience what it’s like to be in a lecture hall with hundreds of students.
