Hancock County man arrested after firing gun shots from home

A Tioga, Illinois, man was arrested for firing numerous gun shots into the air over several area homes. 

Sheriff Scott Bentzinger said it happened early Sunday morning at 12:05 a.m.

Hancock County deputies responded to the area of 90 N. County Road 830 for the report of a man shooting a handgun from a residential front porch.

Deputies spoke with witnesses in the area and learned that 27-year-old James "Mat” Mason from Tioga, was the man seen firing the handgun.

Deputies made contact with Mason and placed him under arrest for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.

Deputies collected more firearms as evidence and safekeeping from Mason’s residence.

Mason was placed in Hancock County Jail on the Class Four Felony charge.

Mason remains in jail awaiting a bond hearing.
