Community youth benefits from ‘Blessing in a Box’

An idea to help feed kids in the community is getting a lot of attention from those on Quincy’s south side.

The ‘Blessing in a Box’ food pantries are now set up at Harrison Hills and in front of the Parsons Youth Center. It’s all because of a partnership that started in June between the Quincy Neighborhood Federation and Parsons Youth Center.

The goal of the food pantries is to help feed kids, especially during the summer months when they aren’t getting fed at school.

"We fill them and they’re empty by the end of the day," said Melissa Crabill, organizer of Blessing in a Box. "The only way we can do this is donations. We rely completely on donations."

Anyone can take the donations and anyone can give donations. You’re asked to drop off non-perishable items in the boxes at any time. There’s also a drop box on 6th Street between Cedar and Cherry.
