Authorities work to identify human remains found in Mississippi River

Pike County, Illinois, authorities say there’s an open investigation to identify human remains found in the Mississippi River last week.

Coroner Paul Petty said the remains were found caught up underneath driftwood near Saverton, Missouri, last week.

Authorities have collected DNA samples from the remains, and they are now working to match those samples with family members.  Petty said that process could take four to eight weeks, but he hopes results will be back sooner than that.
