Quincy University students are getting a taste of the real world of broadcast news. QUTV’s first-ever broadcast boot camp is underway this week.
Students will produce a 30-minute newscast and are getting a jump-start on skills they’ll learn in the upcoming semester. Several area professionals are speaking at the four-day event, including WGEM News evening anchor Gene Kennedy, who offered news anchoring tips and techniques during Tuesday’s workshop.
Students say the work sessions have been valuable.
"My main goal is to be broadcasting but I think knowing how to do everything, the camera, the sound, everything single thing, that just gives me a greater appreciation of how much work actually has to go in to that."
On Wednesday, WGEM Meteorologist Jeremy Ledford teaches students how to produce a weather segment. On Thursday, students produce a live half-hour newscast on freshman move-in day QUTV’s Facebook page.
