Quincy Public Schools Transportation Director Shane Barnes says with the opening of the five new elementary schools on Thursday, August 19, the department has made adjustments to routes to accommodate the new locations and updating their route timing system.
Barnes says no new routes have been added, but the process has been planned months and bus drivers are expected to practice running the district routes as practice Monday morning and afternoon in preparation for the first day of school.
"Well it’s kind of like a budget, you plan what you thinks gonna happen to the best of your ability but you always adjust," Barnes said. "We know there are going to be some major adjustments, there are every year."
QPS mailed bus route information out to parents and Barnes says if parents need to update or change an address, it is best to do it now.
No major changes are happening with the middle school & high school bus routes, according to Barnes. He says the first round out buses should start around 6:00 a.m. to pick up high school students on the first day of school.
The transportation department is urging parents to give buses between 20-30 minutes extra pick up time before contacting them.
Parents should call (217)-224-5910 for any bus route questions or concerns.
