The University of Illinois said schools should focus on reducing sexual assault when it happens most, which is during the first weeks of school.
While officials at Quincy University said it hasn’t been a big problem in the past, they do training with freshmen to inform them about preventing sexual assault.
The report also recommends working to reduce alcohol abuse, something QU security says is a common theme with these cases.
"Now they’re on their own and they’re making their own decisions, so sometimes those decisions aren’t the best or healthy," said QU Safety and Security Director Sam Lathrope. "They put themselves in a situation maybe where they’re drinking, and most of the sexual assaults seem to have an alcohol component to it."
The report also said that freshman are the most common victims of sexual assault, and recommends targeting specific groups at universities that are at higher risk.
