Crews pull man out of the water near a local boat dock

First responders in Hancock County, Illinois rescued a man from the Mississippi River Saturday morning.

Fire Chief Steve Helenthal said crews got the call at around 6:30 a.m. for a person trapped inside their vehicle and it was fully submerged.

Helenthal said it happened near the Great Lakes Boat Company dock.

When crews arrived, he said part of a truck was sticking out of the water. Crews then got chains and were able to pull it out.

Helenthal said crews then pulled the man out of the truck, but he was unresponsive.

EMS performed CPR on the scene and Helenthal said the man was taken to Keokuk Area Hospital for more treatment.

His condition is unknown at this time.

Helenthal said Hamilton Police Department is handling the investigation and more will be released at a later time.
