Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner slept at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy Sunday night.
Rauner spent several days at the facility earlier this year.
A spokesperson for the Governor said he was meeting with Vets’ Home residents and will take a look at the progress being made on the former Sycamore Health Care facility.
In June, Rauner announced a $53 million investment that will build a new water system and renovate the Sycamore Facility to house veterans during the vets’ home construction.
All of this is an effort to get rid of the the legionella bacteria on campus. Legionnaires’ disease has contributed to the death of 13 residents at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy since 2015. Dozens more were sickened.
Rauner is scheduled to sit down for an interview with WGEM’s Gene Kennedy during his visit Monday. That interview will air in multiple parts on WGEM News at Five, Six and Ten.
