Local organizations put together a band for senior citizens

Senior citizens were able to enjoy the sounds of a band Friday morning.

Thanks to Arts Quincy, The Salvation Army Kroc Center, and the Quincy Community Theatre who teamed up for the first Band on a Bus Tour. They played songs like ‘Twist and Shout’, ‘Old Time Rock and Roll’, and ‘Soul Man’. All to make sure everyone has access to arts and music.

"We’re really focused this year on access and sometimes that means people who use to enjoy going to, let’s say the symphony or the park band, aren’t able to travel anymore," said Laura Sievert, Arts Quincy Executive Director. "So, this is an effort to increase access by bringing the music to them."

"I just think that it’s wonderful that the different organizations, bands, and things like that come to entertain those of us who are housed here and that can’t get out to see there performances and that they will bring them to us," said Sunset resident Marjorie Sullivan.

They stopped at Sunset Home, The Illinois Veterans’ Home, and Good Samaritan Home.
