Hannibal to set flood gates on Sunday

Hannibal Emergency Management officials announced Thursday that they would be setting all five floodgates in Hannibal on Saturday at 1 p.m.

As the remnants of tropical cyclone Gordon approach the area, heavy rains and the possibility of flooding will be a serious concern.

WGEM StormTrak Weather’s Jeremy Ledford says, "A storm total 3 to 6 inches of rain expected through Sunday morning with locally higher amounts possible. This heavy rainfall will result in flooding of low lying areas with flash flooding on smaller creeks and streams. Significant rises on larger streams and rivers are also possible during this time."

The National Weather Service expects the Mississippi River to rise to 21.7 feet in Hannibal on Sunday.
