Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger has reported the arrest of a Tioga, Illinois, woman for driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and operating an uninsured vehicle.
Bentzinger stated that on Thursday at approximately 9:46 a.m. the sheriff’s office responded to a single vehicle crash involving property damage at 285 North County Rd 820 in Tioga.
When Deputies arrived, the driver of the vehicle, Brittany Powers, 27, attempted to flee the scene by driving through a citizen’s property and back onto the roadway. Powers continued north for approximately a tenth of a mile, traveling through a ditch before coming to a stop.
Bentzinger stated that further investigation revealed Powers had initially left the roadway approximately seven-tenths of a mile south from where her vehicle finally stopped. Powers struck a culvert at 241 North County Rd 820 and proceeded to continue north approximately 4 tenths of a mile before leaving the roadway again, traveling through a fence and striking a farm implement.
Powers refused medical treatment on scene and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and operating an uninsured vehicle.
Powers’ breath alcohol concentration was over 4 times the legal limit of .08. Powers posted bond at the Hancock County Jail.
