Quincy Public Library launched a yearly event Thursday night to help get more kids reading.
It’s the 10th annual "Big Read" which features book giveaway, entertainment and craft activities.
Librarians said stronger reading skills can help kids develop better job skills and perform better later in college.
"We started with the adult program for this because the adults are role models for the children so seeing their parents read the book sets an example for the younger readers," said Ruth Cuthbertson.
The library plans to give away 3,800 books.
For the next month, the library will hold events based off the books.
