QPD able to address safety more efficiently at new elementary schools

City council made a decision that police say will improve safety at one of the new elementary schools.

Aldermen agreed to annex Rooney Elementary into the city. The school is located at 4900 Columbus Road.

Quincy Police Chief Rob Copley says without being annexed into the city, his department wouldn’t be able to make arrests there.

"These are our kids," said Chief Copley. "We owe it to our families of the community, our kids of the community that we take care of them the best that we can. That’s why, to me, it’s very important we do this."

Denman Elementary at 4100 Harrison Street was also on the agenda to be annexed into the city. Council heard a first reading on that ordinance at their Monday meeting.
