Man arrested for making terrorism threats

Keokuk Police Chief David Hinton reported that officers responded to Head Start School at 220 South 22nd St. in Keokuk in reference to an argument Thursday morning.

Officers took Jeremy Burns, 25 of Donnellson, Iowa, into custody at 9:50 a.m. in a parking lot in the 3100 Block of Main in Keokuk.

Hinton stated that Burns was charged with making Threats of Terrorism, a Class D Felony, related to the police call to Head Start School.

Keokuk Community School District placed all of their schools under a “soft lockdown” because of the incident.

Superintendent Christine Barnes said the lockdown was lifted around noon.

“The soft lockdown limits who can come in and out of the school,” said Barnes. “Classes remain in session with their doors locked. We try to keep things as normal as possible with safety being the most important thing.”

Burns was taken to the Lee County Correctional Center.
