Two children killed in Quincy house fire identified

Two children found dead Friday night inside a home that caught fire in Quincy have been identified by Adams County Coroner John Myers as Toby Brewer, 8, and Emma Kramer, 5. The coroner said autopsies are  scheduled in Bloomington on Saturday.

The fire originated on the second floor at 611 North 8th Street, according Deputy Chief Greg Dreyer. The Quincy Fire Department said the call for help came in at 9:10 p.m. Firefighters issued a second alarm, calling all available engines.

QFD Deputy Chief Greg Dreyer said firefighters responded to reports of people trapped inside the home but it’s unclear exactly how many people were in the home. Dreyer said he thought at least one more person was home.

Neighbors said a couple and four children had been living in the home.

“I’m heartbroken,” said neighbor Tracy Marlow. “I saw the smoke from over there by Blessing and I thought it was my place. I was afraid my neighbor didn’t get out or my animals were in the middle of it all. I came back to find out that it was my neighbors house but the cops wouldn’t tell me about the kids.”

Investigators were on scene to begin trying to piece together exactly what happened.

The fire was out shortly after 10 p.m.
