Efforts are underway to preserve the Champ Clark Bridge’s history.

Thursday night, MoDOT gave one of the two original plaques from the old Champ Clark Bridge to the Louisiana Historical Museum during its annual fundraiser.

MoDOT is currently working to replace the 90-year-old bridge.

The museum said they are grateful for MoDOT’s donation.

“It’s a great draw for people who are interested in the bridges, the transportation, the railroads and anything that pertains to transportation through here but particularly Highway 54,” said Judy Schmidt, Louisiana Historical Museum Board President.

Work on the new bridge is expected to be completed in the fall of 2019.
