Crews responded to a fire Thursday night around 11 p.m. in a room at the Bel-Air Motel in Monroe City, Missouri.
Monroe City Police and ambulance and Monroe County Sheriff were all on the scene as of 12 a.m.
The Monroe City Fire Chief told WGEM News that a single room was fully engulfed when they arrived, however, they were able to put the fire out within about 20 minutes. He said, had they gotten there any later and the fire would have easily spread the rest of the building because of the open attic design of the structure.
The fire marshal has been called and the fire is under investigation.
The fire chief would not say if he believed the fire was accidental or intentional.
Everyone in the rest of the building has been relocated to another building on the same property.
As of 12:12 a.m. crews were ventilating the room where the fire occurred.
No injuries have been reported.
