Philanthropy highlighted in northeast Missouri

The Community Foundation Serving West Central Illinois & Northeast Missouri held its annual Friends of Philanthropy event Thursday night.

The Community Foundation builds permanent charitable funds to assist area nonprofits and communities.

Thursday, the foundation announced two of its counties have received $10,000 match promises each. Those will be fulfilled if residents of Lewis and Hancock counties can raise the same amount of money.

“When I’m working with a prospective donor, I get to ask them: You’re charitably inclined, if you’re going to give me money, what do you want to see happen with that money? Very few people who are asked for money are asked what do you want to see happen so that’s the power behind what we do,” said Community Foundation CEO & President Jill Blickhan.

Meanwhile Marion County’s endowment fund said they plan to raise an additional $25,000 for the fund
