QUINCY (WHIG)— A former daycare worker faces a minimum of 18 but up to 90 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections if convicted of the multiple counts of child pornography he faces.

Nathaniel L. Caldwell, 21, pleaded not guilty to three counts of child pornography Tuesday in Adams County Circuit Court. He was indicted on the charges Nov. 15 by an Adams County grand jury.

The Class X felonies carry a possible sentencing range of six to 30 years in prison, but state law requires mandatory consecutive charges in this type of case.

Caldwell, who worked at the St. Peter School daycare in Quincy, was arrested Oct. 31 at his home by Quincy police on three counts of child pornography. Police said the investigation was started after receiving information from the attorney general’s Internet Crimes Against Children division.

He reportedly possessed 169 images and 176 videos of child pornography.

The case was placed on the March jury trial docket with a status hearing set for Feb. 19.

Caldwell also was indicted on four additional counts of child pornography on Nov. 15. The indictment alleges that he possessed child pornography on May 2, 2017.

He pleaded not guilty on those charges Nov. 20, and the case was set for a Dec. 11 status hearing.

If convicted in that case, a possible consecutive sentence with the original case would be at the discretion of the sentencing judge.

Caldwell is being held in the Adams County Jail on $700,000 bond between the two cases.
