Jury finds Iowa man guilty of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a death

Lee County, IA (WGEM) — A Lee County jury found a Morning Sun, Iowa, man guilty of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a death.

Court records show that the jury found Damian Hamann, 28, guilty on Wednesday.

Hamann turned himself into authorities in August after the Lee County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the death of Sadie Alvarado, 20, of Muscatine, Iowa, who was found dead near West Point, Iowa, earlier in the day.

Court documents stated that Hamann told authorities that early on August 5, his girlfriend, Alvarado, and he had argued, and she jumped out of his vehicle on 235th Avenue in West Point Township, Iowa. He told officers that he returned with his vehicle to his home in Morning Sun, and returned to Lee County afternoon later that day to look for Sadie.

Court records showed that Hamann’s sentencing is scheduled for February 1, 2019.
