Kids in northeast Missouri received a hands-on learning experience with gun safety.

It’s called the Hannibal area shooter’s education program.

Any kid from 8 to 18 years old can take the free class which is sponsored by the Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department.

The kids get to shoot target practice with BB guns and Coaches teach the kids safe shooting techniques and how to handle any firearm.

“The number one issue that we have here is we want to make sure they know how to handle them safely. They know where the safety is, coaches are advising them the whole time. That’s the number one thing and if they’re being safe with the firearms when they’re here,” said instructor Travis Moore.

Classes are held every Thursday at the Admiral Coontz Armory except the next two weeks for winter break.
