Zerbonia stated that the arrests were the result of an investigation which began on December 4 after the pharmacy contacted the Hannibal Police department regarding fraudulent prescriptions being filled by unknown subjects.

Zerbonia reported that Holliday and Bonaparte were placed on 24-hour holds at the Marion County Jail. Cole was released pending further review. Cole and Bonaparte were also issued city summons for marijuana possession.
