Hancock County man arrested for burglary, stealing vehicle

Hancock County, Il (WGEM) — A Hancock County man has been arrested after a burglary and stealing a vehicle.

Hancock County Sheriff  Scott Bentzinger has reported the arrest of Kent Elder, 36 of Ferris, Illinois, for Burglary, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Unlawful Use of Weapons, and Driving Under the Influence.

Bentzinger stated that on Sunday at about 2 p.m, Hancock County Deputies responded to report of a suspicious man, at a residence, in the 2100 E Co Rd Block of 1800 N Co Rd, rural
Hancock County. The caller advised of a man trying to forcefully enter their home. Upon arrival,
deputies stopped the suspicious man trying to flee the property in the victim’s vehicle.

Bentzinger reported Elder’s bond was set at $25,000 on Monday. Elder remains in Hancock County
Jail. Elder is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
