There’s a push for even more tourism in Hannibal.
City council authorized the mayor to sign a ground lease agreement with Viking River Cruises on Wednesday.
The city said the cruise line will pay a dollar per passenger docking fee in exchange for docking rights at Hannibal’s updated riverfront.
Downtown businesses said an increase in visitors helps everyone out.
“Every business down here kinda slows down and can get hurt during the winter. So having more business even if it’s just more in the summer, you can save up and have more and you can be better off for the winter,” said Eric Fenton with Finn’s Food & Spirits.
Hannibal’s riverfront is expected to be complete in the fall of this year.
