Quincy (WGEM) — Quincy police are investigating a homicide that took place Sunday morning in Quincy.
Quincy Deputy Chief Doug VanderMaiden stated that police are conducting a homicide investigation from an incident that occurred in the 800 block of South 13th.
VanderMaiden reported the victim of the incident is Dennis Green, 53 of Quincy.
VanderMaiden stated officers were sent to 800 South 13th around 3:45 am for a shots fired call. Green was found on the front porch suffering from at least one gunshot wound and was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be conducted today in Bloomington, Illinois.
There were people inside the residence when the shooting occurred, but no one else was injured, according to VanderMaiden. Multiple shell casings were recovered from the scene.
Neighbor Mathew Unglesbee said a car pulled up in front of the house and someone in the car shot Green while he was on his front porch.
Unglesbee said he has never heard of anything like this “random act of violence” happening in Quincy. Unglesbee said you hear of it happening in Decatur, Springfield, and Chicago, but not here.
Although VanderMaiden did not mention any suspects or arrests, he stated the police department has no reason to believe there is any further danger to the public as this incident does not appear to be a random act.
VanderMaiden stated the investigation is ongoing and the police department is asking anyone with information about this incident or anything leading up to this incident to please contact the department directly or through Crime Stoppers Hotline at 217-228-4474.
