Macomb police warn of Medicare scams

Macomb, IL (WGEM) — The Macomb Police Department has reported that it has received multiple reports from citizens regarding fraudulent notices from Medicare.

MPD stated that the notices were delivered via mail and appeared very similar to legitimate notices they normally receive, including their legitimate account number. The notice indicated the recipient needed to pay a past due balance immediately to avoid losing their Medicare coverage. When citizens contacted Medicare about the notices they were proven to be fraudulent.

MPD is encouraging all Medicare recipients to pay strict attention to any correspondence they receive and address any concerns with Medicare to prove authenticity prior to sending any payment. Those citizens who feel they have already been a victim of this scam are encouraged to contact Medicare and their banking facility.
