Ahead of an expected winter storm, local police are urging drivers to keep safety top of mind.

Palmyra Police Chief Eddie Bogue reminds drivers to slow down when the snow starts to fall Friday evening.

“Conditions are always important especially when it comes to a crash and people should know that they should slow down when the road conditions are not favorable,” Bogue said.

Also, cut out distractions, including cell phone use.

Chief Bogue advises drivers to stay off the roads if at all possible.

“The less traffic is better especially for the MoDot workers, especially if they’re are trying to remove snow from the roadway, if they have to deal with a lot of heavy congested traffic that makes they job more difficult,” Bogue said.

Drivers that do have to travel, especially long distance, should be sure to prepare for the drive.

The American Red Cross suggests packing water and food, because if you have any travel troubles, it could take a while for help to arrive.
