Palmyra, MO (WGEM) — The Missouri Department of Transportation closed a portion of US61/24 near Palmyra Saturday afternoon.

MoDOT said that an incident involving two semi trucks forced them to close the southbound lanes on U.S. Route 61/24 near South Fabius bridge, just north of Palmyra in Marion County.

“Yeah the trucks were going down here and they were going too fast, and they spun out, and wound up jack knifing across the highway there, then more wrecks started happening,” said truck driver Doug Vahle who first heard about what happened over his radio.

Due to the large amount of snow on all side roads, no official detour could be set up.

The closure lasted for about 1 hour and 15 minutes while traffic waited for crews to clear the way.
