Knox, County, MO (WGEM) — The deadline for parties to submit their candidate for Knox County sheriff passed Friday, and only one candidate was nominated.
Knox County Clerk Marlene Spory said that Democrats nominated Allen Gudehus as their candidate. She said Republicans, nor any other party, did not nominate a candidate.
Gudehus is currently serving as the temporary sheriff after replacing former sheriff Robert Becker, who resigned after pleading guilty last month to a sex crime.
Gudehus was defeated by Becker in the 2016 election.
Spory said despite there only being one candidate on the ballot, there will still be a special election on February 26, to allow for the possibility of a write-in candidate.
“Write-in candidates can file a declaration of intent up until the second Friday before the election,” said Spory.
