At least one person dies in Illinois due to cold

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, at least one person is dead and 144 people visited the emergency room due to cold-related injuries since Tuesday.

Department officials said those injuries were hypothermia or frostbite. They did not specify the cause of the death or where it occurred.

As recent as Thursday, temperatures were as low as 33 degrees below zero in Moline, Illinois and wind chills were 55 degrees below zero in some areas.
