Main Street Keokuk asking $30,000 in city money for operations, grants

The group hoping to improve historic buildings in downtown Keokuk is asking the city for money to help do that.

Main Street Keokuk is asking for $30,000 in city money to help reach that goal. That will go along with private donations and state funding. Of that $30,000, the group wants to use $7,500 on facade grants that be used on at least five buildings downtown. They hope the city hall fire won’t impact their request.

“I still feel very confident that the value of the Main Street program and the facade work and the many other works that we do through the state and national program is going to be funded,” said Main Street Keokuk Executive Director Joyce Glasscock.

Main Street Keokuk officials said the city budget will need to be finalized by mid-March, so they’ll know by then if they’ll receive their funds.
