Threat at Mark Twain School results in one arrest, more could follow

New London, MO (WGEM) — One person is in custody following a threat towards Mark Twain Junior-Senior High School.

Ralls County Sheriff Chief Deputy Ronald Haught reported that Sunday evening officials with the Ralls County R-II School District notified the Sheriff’s Office of an alleged threat towards Mark Twain Junior-Senior High School made via Snapchat.

Haught stated that deputies reviewed the postings and arrested Tyler Lanier, 17, of Center, Missouri. Lanier is a student at Mark Twain Senior High School and remains in custody pending the issuance of a warrant for 1st Degree Terroristic Threats.

Haught told WGEM News that he believed the threat was credible and stated the investigation is on-going, and additional arrests are possible.

The sheriff’s office stated that due to the strong relationship between the school district and law enforcement, including the Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputy, information about this threat was quickly relayed and allowed for a swift investigation and apprehension of a suspect, without the need to disrupt school operations.

“From the time that the sheriff’s office was notified until we had him in custody was less than two hours,” said Haught.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with additional information about this matter to contact them at 573-985-5611.
