QUINCY (WGEM) — The Quincy Mall is nearing an agreement to bring in a new movie theater to the vacant space formerly held by AMC 3.

Mall Manager Mike Jenkins said the name of the theater company wouldn’t be released until the paperwork is finalized.

“We are hoping to finalize the deal soon,” said Jenkins.

The AMC theater closed in the mall on January 7.

Shoppers said it’s a welcome addition, but they would want to see some upgrades to the space.

“I think it would be great, especially if they could renovate it and make it so much nicer, I think it would be a good thing for the community,” said shopper Christina Boltz.

Officials with Cullinan Properties, the company that owns the Quincy Mall, announced on New Year’s Eve that the theater would be closing in January.
