Reconstruction work on Mark Twain Memorial Lighthouse moves forward

Work to reconstruct the Mark Twain memorial lighthouse will move forward.

Tuesday night, Hannibal city council approved a bid to reconstruct the lighthouse.

Hannibal Parks and Recreation officials say the current lighthouse is beyond repair.

The city is set to pay around $135,000 for the work and they hope for it to be complete sometime this summer.

“A new lighting schematic for it with lights on the outside illuminating the face of it and also some led lighting on the very top so structurally it’s going to look about the same but with the lighting scheme it will make it look a little different, a lot nicer and more appealing,” said Aron Lee with the Hannibal Parks and Recreation Dept.

Also out of Hannibal city council:

  • They approved a contract for the International Public Alert Warning System
  • Council approved adding a 17th emergency warning siren
  • Council approved several supplemental budget amendments
