Ash Wednesday services held throughout Tri-States

Residents across the Tri-States celebrated Ash Wednesday.

A couple dozen churchgoers gathered at Salem Evangelical church in Quincy for their Ash Wednesday service.

People were marked with a cross on their forehand or the back of their hand with ashes.

“The message of lent, it’s basically the same every year,” said Rev. Matthew Hunt. “There’s a time where we clean house and we take a look inside and say what have we gathered over the year that kinda needs to go.”

Ash Wednesday marks the start of lent which goes until Easter. Easter this year is April 21.
