Grain bin collapses

LA GRANGE, Mo (WGEM) — A grain bin collapsed  Monday morning, according to LaGrange fire officials.

LaGrange Fire Chief Henry Gunsauls says it was a catastrophic failure of an 850,000 bushel grain bin.

Gunsauls says crews were working on one side of the bin when it split, but there’s no word on what caused the split.

He says clean up could take weeks and the spill backs up from LaGrange city hall to the railroad.

LaGrange Police Chief said Bunge Corporation out of St. Louis runs the facility. He says there is a lot of traffic daily with semis and barges that come through the area to load and unload.

According to Josh Slater with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, traffic near 300 S. Main Street was blocked.

Drivers are advised to find an alternative route.
