John Wood Community College is one of two local college basketball teams still in the hunt for a national crown on the hardwood.
Head Coach Brad Hoyt as done a masterful job in getting this team ready at the right time of year and now their poised to take on the best of the best from across the country.
The Blazers are still riding high after cutting down the nets in East Peoria on Sunday afternoon.
For the fifth time in program history and the first time since 2015 John Wood Community College is heading back to the National Junior College (Division 2) Tournament in Danville, Illinois. Tourney action at Mary Miller Gym gets underway on Tuesday, March 19th.
Despite their recent success, the 19-13 Blazers are confident they haven’t even come close to reaching their ceiling as a team.
Sophomore guard Eric Easter said, “We haven’t played our best basketball yet as a whole.
We’ve had individuals play as good as we can and as all around, but we haven’t had everybody play in sync as best we can yet.
And to think that that hasn’t happened yet and what we’ve accomplished recently, it’s scary to think about what we could do if we get that to happen.”
