Plans move forward for new Quincy restaurant

Plans are moving forward on a new micro-brewery and restaurant on Quincy’s east side.

The new business is expected to go in near 48th and State at the old Deters Dairy building.

At Monday’s city council meeting, aldermen approved a first reading of a zoning change from rural to commercial.

Owner Gabe McClean is also the owner of the Abbey in Quincy and says they do not plan on tearing down any existing structures, only renovating the ones currently there.

McClean says he chose 48th and State due to the lack of restaurant options on Quincy’s east side.

“I really haven’t decided what kind of food I’m going to do yet, to tell you the truth,” he said. “It’s not going to be Kelly’s food. It’s not going to be the Abbey’s food. It’s not going to be pizza. We’re really not sure, but it’ll be something different.”

McClean says they are still in the development stages right now and they’re still roughly two years away from an opening date.
