Voter say yes to funding improvements at Hannibal schools

HANNIBAL (WGEM) — Voters in the Hannibal School District said yes to Proposition C.A.R.E Tuesday.

The Proposition passed with 84 percent of the vote.

The passing of Proposition C.A.R.E. will allow the district to borrow an additional $14.5 million for a new HVAC system at the high school and middle school.

The money will also pay for energy efficient upgrades at the schools.

Officials state the adjusted debt service levy of the School District is estimated to remain unchanged at $1.0700 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of real and personal property.

Superintendent Susan Johnson has said that if passed, work would start during summer break, and the new system could be ready to go in the fall.
