WGEM Academic Challenge
On January 18th, the 31st WGEM Academic Challenge was once again held in the auditorium on the campus of John Wood Community College. New set elements, a new host and a new school crowned champion in 2019. Quincy Notre Dame Music Trivia Night
Evening News Anchor, Alexandra Carter along with Marketing Manager Shawn Dickerman, were the repeat Masters of Ceremony for the Quincy Notre Dame Music Trivia Night on January 26th to support the QND music program.
Team WGEM took home First Place in the QND Music Trivia Event which raised funds for the Music Department. Team members included Operations Manager, Jim Lawrence, Promotions Producer, Ryan Stoops, Director, Mike Provine and former WGEM employee, Phil Cooper.
Over 200 fans braved the frozen tundra on January 21st to attend the Cardinal Caravan held on the campus of Quincy University. WGEM Sports Director, Tony Cornish, Jr. kicked off the night to introduce the Cardinals.
WGEM Weather Drawing
We welcomed the January weather drawing winner to WGEM for a tour of the weather department and the newsroom. The January winner received a tablet courtesy of Sunset Homes.
WGEM Golden Apple Award
On January 30th, educator Julie Radel was awarded the WGEM Golden Apple award for the month of January. She was presented her apple from Morning Anchor, Natalie Will.
Quincy Regional Crimestoppers TV Trivia Night
The Holiday Inn was the host site for the 10th Annual Quincy Regional Crimestoppers TV Trivia Night. The event was hosted by Morning News Anchor, Natalie Will and Marketing Manager, Shawn Dickerman.

Arts Quincy “Follow Your HeART”
WGEM Evening News Anchor, Alexandra Carter was a guest cake decorating judge for the Arts Quincy event “Follow Your HeART” held at the Quincy Country Club.
Special Olympics Polar Plunge
Despite the temps being in the upper 40’s on February 23, the water was still cold for the brave individuals that came out to Moorman Park for the Special Olympics Polar Plunge. Evening News Anchor, Alexandra Carter, a big supporter of Special Olympics participated in this year’s event.
Central High School’s College and Career Fair
WGEM Sales Manager, Ben Van Ness, and Marketing Consultant, Wendy Gunn, attended Central High School’s College and Career Fair on February 23rd. The event was open to all high school students so they could visit with several businesses and colleges to plan their future.
WGEM and JWCC Career Makeover
The 2019 WGEM and John Wood Community College Career Makeover winner was announced on February 27th. Congratulations to Jennifer Stickler who will receive free tuition and books to obtain her degree. Morning News Anchor, Natalie Will surprised this year’s winner.

WGEM Home and Living Show
Congratulations to the WGEM Sales Team on another successful Home & Living Show. This event allows over 100 vendors from all over the Tri-States to set up tables and displays for their businesses. The 2019 show saw over 4,000 attendees. Evening Anchor, Alexandra Carter, with the assistance of Photojournalist, Ben Neisen and Marketing Manager, Shawn Dickerman, was live on March 1st at 5 and 6 pm.
Multimedia Journalists, Kara Biernat, Kaylee Pfeiferling and Drew Brown came out to support the WGEM Home & Living Show and to greet viewers.

Mark Twain Area United Way
GEM’s General Manager, Carlos Fernandez and Marketing Manager, Shawn Dickerman produced videos for the Mark Twain Area United Way to help them honor recipients at their inaugural Evening of Philanthropy event that was held on March 9th. Executive Director, Denise Damron, presented an award to Carlos to thank WGEM for their assistance in preparing the videos.
WGEM Storm Spotters Class
On March 4th, WGEM hosted a Storm Spotters class held at the auditorium on the John Wood Community College campus. Our team of meteorologists was there to help Emergency Managers certify members of the public to become certified Storm Spotters through an educational class. Modernizing WGEM Facilities
Another way WGEM is giving back to our communities is by enhancing our station. We are working with architects and designers to come up with a modern work area which will make the production of our news content easier and will provide more features to improve the work experience for our staff. Shown here is Quincy Media Director of Operations, Brady Draesler along with contractors involved with the remodeling project.
The remodeling project is an all-hands-on-deck project that requires collaboration from corporate staff as well as general contractors, electricians, plumbers, heating and air conditioning crews, WGEM Chief Engineer, Brent Clingingsmith, Quincy Media Assistant Director of Engineering, Jeff Wilson and WGEM News Director, Chad Mahoney.
