A local French priest is speaking out after the Notre Dame Cathedral went up in flames Monday.
Father Arnaud Devillers is the pastor at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Quincy.
Devillers is from France and has been in the states since the mid ’80s. With Notre Dame now up in flames, he says it will have a big impact on Parisians and the Catholic church as a whole.
“It’s a loss for Parisians,” said Devillers. “It’s a loss for Catholics. I think it’s a loss for all Europe because it’s really the best known church in Europe. It’s not the largest. It’s not the tallest, but it’s certainly the most famous of all the Catholic churches in Europe.”
Devillers says he was sad to see the spire of the church fall. He also hopes they will be able to salvage some of the historic stained glass, the Emmanuel Bell and the organ, which is the largest in France.
