Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker declared on Monday that April 22-26 is the state’s first Science Education Week.
According to a press release from Pritzker’s office, this week is meant to put an emphasis on the importance of science in the classroom.
The Illinois State Board of Education said it encourages teachers to share photos, videos, and science story lines throughout the week using the hashtag #ILScienceWeek. ISBE also encourages business and community leaders to participate in the week by sharing how science education impacted their lives.
State Superintendent of Education Dr. Carmen I. Ayala said science helps solve the world’s challenges.
“Science education equips students with knowledge and skills, such as communication, collaboration, and flexibility, that are necessary for success in any career,” Ayala said.
