Illinois State Police investigate shooting in Pittsfield

Illinois State Police are investigating a shooting that happened in Pittsfield, Illinois on Tuesday.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office said a family disturbance led to the person being shot.

The incident took place in the 100 block of West Fayette Street. ISP said it happened shortly after 9 p.m.

According to the sheriff’s office, Chaz W. Carter, 32, of Pittsfield, shot a 55-year-old family member outside the home in front of law enforcement.

During the incident, an unnamed police officer returned gun fire. Carter was not injured.

Authorities took Carter into custody with the use of a taser. He was sent to Illini Community Hospital before being taken to the Pike County Jail.

ISP officials said Carter was arrested for attempted murder.

The sheriff’s office said the victim was in critical condition, and taken to Illini Community Hospital and later to an undisclosed hospital.
